Aphozyan Guard Staff

During the early part of the Althrian Inter-Clan war, all eyes were on the Xelin lands. The Raxia people had banded together and brought their allies into an army against the perceived threat coming from the Aphozyan Darklands. The Xelin lived on the border of the Darkland and their outposts were absolutely necessary for Allied watchmen. The people of the Xelin winds, however, were not interested in playing host to scared watchdogs itching for battle.

The Xelin monks held their people's borders, denying any outlander access to their shores. Each monk carried a Guard Staff, the traditional weapon of guards and soldiers that had been used for centuries. This multi-pointed staff could disarm and neutralize an enemy quicker than any sword or axe as long as it was in the hands of a trained fighter. If anyone else 'liberated' it from a monk in battle, it could be just as dangerous to the new user as the enemy they were facing. The monks held the lines against waves of land attacks and sent many Raxia fighters packing back to their ships.

The Raxia King grew furious and sent a hundred warships to take entry by force. Raxia implemented new technologies on their ships and blasted a hole in the unsuspecting ranks of the monks. The close range weapon masters didn't stand a chance against the initial onslaught. The large weapons the Raxia brought with them were burdensome and impractical for anything but naval warfare but the Xelin mountain ranges were little more than a group of small islands. The ships had free range over nearly every inch of Xelin lands. They brought the monks and the rest of the Xelin army to their knees by threatening to destroy their temples and cities. In the end, the Raxia gained their outposts and the Xelin people watched for years as Raxia ravaged their lands with weapons testing and superfluous battles.

The Aphozyan people tried best they could to defend themselves without attacking the Xelin outposts but it was impossible. Aphozya led a single blitz against the outposts, their lancers zeroing in on the Raxia bases. The courtesies given to the Xelin by Aphozya were never forgotten and became the initial fires that forged a strong and long-lasting friendship. Xelin forces intermingled with Aphozyan and weapons were often exchanged. Over years a small faction of the Aphozyan armies adopted an augmented version of the guard staff. This new type was molded from white emission crystal, providing medium range rapid-fire concussive blasts as well as the already established edge in close range defense fighting.


-this was designed on the fly... a mix between a chinese hook sword and a couple other influences... Don't question the practicality of this weapon, I have enough martial artist friends and I've studied enough to know that with training, this could be incredibly formidable... not the easiest weapon to learn... but the advantages of simplicity can sometimes be negated with focused complexity.
